ice shot: THE ICE WAS SHOT AT A 45DEGREE ANGLE TO THE ICE'S SURFACE. THIS PLAYS UP THE SUBJECT'S SHAPE AND ALLOWS THE PHOTOGRAPHER TO USE THE FLASH, WHICH PENITRATES THE ICE, ILLUMINATING DEEPER SUBJECTS. (BECAUSE ICE IS REFLECTION, SHOTTING STRAIGHT DOWN ON IT WITH A HUGE HOT SPOT.) FOR THE FLA BUBBLES, THE PHOTOGRAPHER SHOT STRAIGHT DOWN WITHOUT THE FLASH, BEFORE TAKING THE PHOTO, THE PHOTOGRAPHER MADE SURE ALL SETTINGS WERE ON AUTO. AFTER TAKING THE PICTURE, HE POLISHED THE TWEAKS TO COLOR SATURATION AND SHARPNESS IN APLLE APERTURE. TAKING PICTURES ON THE RIVERBANK REQUIRES KNEELING ALONG THE WATER'S EDGE IN FREEZING CONDITIONS. HE PROTECTS HIS SHINS WITH KNEEPADS, WELL-PADDED SKI PANTS, AND OR AND OLD BLANKET THAT I KEEP ON HAND TO KNEEL ON. ICE IS A DANGEROUS SUBJECT, IF YOU STEP ON IT, YOU CANT EASILY SLIP ON IT OR BREAK THROUGH IT. EITHER COULD DO A NUMBER ON THE PHOTOGRAPHER AND OR THE CAMERA SO WHEN SHOOTING ON ICE, STEP WITH CARE.

VALUE OF BRIGHTNESS: Brightness/contrast is the adjustment control that the expers love to hate and denigrate. Yet it has powers that are perfect for anyone interested in going beyond basic photoshop adjustments. its not always right to use brightness/ contrast. The problem is that brightness/contrast is a rather blunt instrument. using it for overall adjustments is like trying to sculpt detail in a statue with a sledgehammer. you may get the groove you wanted, but you'll get a llot more happening that you dont want. so for overall adjustments, you start with levels to adjust the blacks and whites, then curves for midtones. these controls offer the ability to adjust one thing without affecting everything else in the same way.

photo critique and fix

I brightened the sky in this photo and made the sun look like it was hitting the mountains. i didnt really like the clouds in the reflection so i tried getting rid of them but it didnt look good, so i made the water darker. so overall i like the top of this picture better than the bottom half.

Ansel Adams Post

I chose this photo because i thought it was really pretty. And i also love waterfalls. I think it represents peace, and shows the grace of nature.

I think this is a good picture because it shows the water shooting up and going all over the place. The fact that it looks like frost on the mountains just makes me like this picture even more.

5 B/W Non-Portrait Photos

I chose this photo because, first off i love coffee, and its in black and white. This picture reminds me of a nice sunday morning while you can just sit there and read the newspaper and enjoy your coffee.

The compostion of this photo is good because its half of the cup, and you can still read a little of the newspaper.

I chose this picture becausei thought it was really pretty. At first when i looked at this picture it looked like the clouds over a city. But then when i looked at it again, it looked like a waterfall.
I really like how you can still see the sun, and the fact that its really black in parts and really white in others. I dont really like when pictures have a lot of grey. So i really like this picture.

I love this picture. Overall the tree is my favorite subject in the picture. I like how the city is the setting, but its fogged in the background! There really is a lot going on in this photo, but it makes the photo work well together, it makes you look at the photo a longer amount of time, and appreciate it more.
The first thing that my attention goes to is the tree, and then the birds. i think this photo is layed out really well, and is just great overall.

I really like the contrast in this photo. The clouds are my favorite part, just how they go from really dark black, to grey, to practically white. The grass is matted down, which doesnt really look all that great, especially sense its called where did childhood memories go, they were obviously just there, but the swings are empty? that just doesnt make sense to me.
I love how you can see it go from ne swing to the next and so on. overall its a very good picture because of the contrast.

I love how white this picture is. It makes it look really peaceful and beautiful. The only thing i really dont like about the photo is the water, i think it should have looked like glass or something, it kind of already does on the far side, but it should look like that all over.
I like how the main focus is between 2trees. It just makes the photo.
